Our Purpose

Nexus Residential Design serves the residential construction and real estate market in the Harrisburg, PA area by providing high quality design services at reasonable prices. All too often the design process is simply viewed as a necessary evil - a "to do" item on a checklist in the building permit process. At Nexus Residential Design, however, we believe each project deserves a quality set of plans, or “road map” to get to the final destination.

With over 20 years of residential construction experience, our designer has been involved in the construction of hundreds of homes in a variety of capacities. More importantly, he has spent several years in the field directly overseeing the construction of more than 100 homes. This direct hands-on experience means he knows the importance of a good design - and not just one that looks good on paper, but successfully takes your residential project to completion.

We focus on one thing and one thing alone: design. Nothing is more rewarding to us than to see a well-prepared design come to life while knowing that the time spent on the details up front helped make the project a success.

Our Process

Our designs are produced and drafted in AutoCAD software and are delivered in hardcopy form, typically 24” x 36” bond paper, and/or electronic form – PDF files. We have a variety of plan packages available with varying levels of details and included sheets to suit your needs. Of course we can fully customize a plan set to perfectly match your specific requirements as necessary.

We know the building codes and know the "ins and outs" of the permitting process. Our fully developed CAD designs and drawings are designed to meet the International Residential Code (IRC) 2009 edition and will meet or exceed the minimum requirements for issuance of building permits in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

To assist in the design development, we can prepare budget estimates for the costs of construction, as necessary. This value-added service ensures your design will be developed with your budget requirements in mind. After all, any amount of money spent on design is in vain if the project cannot be constructed within your budget.

Brett Warren graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering Technology. During the summer of 1991, he worked for a local custom home builder by working in the field and helping with the framing of houses. This summer job provided him with his first taste of the home building industry.

He decided, however, to continue his education and pursue an advanced degree locally while working part-time as an estimator for the same custom builder. In 1995, he earned his Masters of Engineering degree from the Pennsylvania State University Harrisburg. Upon earning his degree, he decided to pursue his chosen career in engineering and took a position with a local engineering consulting firm which soon led to a transfer to the company headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.

After relocating to Atlanta, he worked in the engineering field for multiple years. However, it wasn’t long after his arrival in Atlanta, until he was truly amazed by the Atlanta housing and building market in terms of its size, volume, and overall value for the dollar. This soon led to the calling to return to the home building industry. Accordingly, he began working for John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods, a large high-end regional home builder as a regional estimator in support of the Charleston, SC, Nashville, TN, and Jacksonville, FL operations.

After some time at John Wieland Homes, he accepted a position with Custom One Homes, a smaller family-owned home builder where he began as an assistant builder in the field. After less than a year he was promoted to Lead Builder in charge of all aspects of the subdivision. It was during these years in the field that he gained what he considered to be the most valuable experience of his career. After another two years in the field, he was promoted to Estimating/Purchasing Manager where he was in charge of all of the estimating and purchasing responsibilities for the company.

While serving as Estimating and Purchasing Manager, he also had the opportunity to work as part of a multi-member design team that was responsible for all new product design and CAD work. As part of this team, he had the opportunity to work with architects from Frank Betz Associates, a nationally recognized architectural firm headquartered in Atlanta.

After completing his time with Custom One Homes, he took a big step and accepted a position with the Atlanta Division of Morrison Homes where he served as Division Vice President of Estimating, Purchasing, and Design. During his employment there, he managed a team of 12 persons which handled the estimating and purchasing responsibilities for the Atlanta Division as wells as the design of new home plans for the company.

In 2003, he moved back to Central PA with his wife and two children to continue his career in the home building and construction industry in Central PA. Soon after moving back to Pennsylvania he accepted a position as Director of Residential Construction for a large site development contractor/general contractor where he was in charge of all aspects of the custom residential construction for the company including estimating, project, management and design.

In 2011, he studied for and passed the real estate license exams and received his real estate salesperson license with Prudential Homesale. (which then became Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices) Soon after receiving his license, he took the additional responsibility of listing agent for Roth’s Farm Village – an age 50 plus condo community in Spring Grove, PA, which was owned by same general contractor that he was employed by. This then led to his promotion to operations manager for the same community for the next four years, in charge of all construction operations and sales and marketing responsibilities for the community. During this time as operations manager, he began to branch out and took steps to form Nexus Residential Design, and began doing design work for a few builders and personal clients as a part-time endeavor. Not long after starting Nexus, the company began to experience steady growth, taking on new clients and additional design work from one year to the next.

Now, he has grown Nexus Residential Design to a full-time, full-service design firm serving builders and homeowners alike. It is his intention to continue to grow his business in his chosen field – one that has provided him with much success and personal satisfaction.
